On fighting back.

This Pride feels different.
Over 150,000 trans people (1/14th of the entire US trans population) have become refugees in their own country, having to flee a hostile state in order to access life-saving medicine, and that’s only Florida.
Even today, Florida adopted horrific guidelines reminiscent of 1974, when access to gender-affirming care was nearly impossible for all but the most wealthy and privileged of us.
I do firmly believe that queer celebration is an act of resistance in the face of the hate we are feeling, but it has been particularly hard to watch others in the community, predominantly cis queers, do so without taking any action to protect trans lives.
That’s why I’ve teamed up with the incredible Lou Thorne to give you the opportunity to fight back. Those of you who know me know that Metropolitan Bar in Brooklyn is my safe haven and was the hub at which I built my entire NYC queer family.
I commissioned Lou to create me a beautiful rendition of the bar, and we are going to be selling prints (link in bio) with all proceeds going to the legal battles to overturn Florida’s laws being spearheaded by Southern Legal Counsel. Even if you don’t want a print, you can donate directly.
